Agrostis scabra

The open panicle of this bentgrass is sometimes half the height of the plant. It is a grass of moist sites from low to subalpine elevations, sometimes seen alongside roads.

Agrostis scabra

The diffuse characteristics of the panicle can be seen near the bottom of the photo, while the top flowers have not yet opened; they show the purplish color.
