Alnus viridis

Found on rock slides, glacial moraines, and other open, disturbed sites, Sitka Alder is common from middle to subalpine elevations. It is most often a multiple-branched tall shrub. This is subspecies sinuata.

Alnus viridis

Male and female catkins are borne on the same plant at the same time as the leaves open. The female flowers mature into a woody, conelike structure.
