A species of subalpine meadows and forest borders, this arnica lacks rays. In some locations, such as along the Dege Peak trail, there are groups of tall stems, flowering late in the season.

The stems bear 3-10 nodding heads of rayless flowers; the stems are both glandular and hairy. The leaves are toothed and hairy.
