Mt. Rainier Flora -- Botrychium simplex -- (Little grapefern)

Botrychium simplex

Rare at the Park, and only a couple of inches tall, this is an easily overlooked grapefern. It is a species of middle elevations where it grows on wet, rocky sites. Grapeferns are members of the Adder's-Tongue Family (Ophioglossaceae).

Botrychium simplex

The leaves are rounded across the end and square at the base. Little Grapefern grows on wet, rocky sites with thin soils.
