Carex paysonis

Payson's is an androgynous sedge; in the photo the cylindrical male spike is shown above the female spikes. The lowest spike is erect, separating it from Carex spectabilis.

A tufted sedge of moist meadows above 6,000 feet, the leaves are flat and slender, and the plants are up to 18 inches tall.
