Carex spectabilis

Aptly named, the flowering parts of this sedge are very showy; they are borne on stems up to two feet tall. The terminal spike is male, the yellow anthers clearly shown, and there are 3-4 female spikes below.

Clump forming with two-foot tall stems that are often purplish at the base, this is a common sedge, particularly above 5,000 feet.
