Mt. Rainier Flora -- Carex utriculata -- (Bladder Sedge)

Carex utriculata

A large sedge with wide leaves, this species forms large clumps, with stems that are up to four feet tall. The slender male spikes are on top of the stem, and the green female spikes are thick and cylindrical, with many flowers. Here the spikes are shown ripening.
