Juncus balticus

The flowers are arranged in an open panicle. The stems are up to three feet tall. This is subspecies ater.

Juncus balticus

Sometimes seen in roadside ditches, this is a common rush of lowland meadows. The leaves are reduced to scales at the base of the flowering stems.
