Mt. Rainier Flora -- Polygonum majus -- (Large Knotweed)

presented by Susan McDougall

Polygonum majus

An upright annual that may reach a foot in height, the flowers are borne in pairs in the leaf axils and crowded towards the top of the stem. This is an uncommon species at the Park, where it grows on thin soils at low elevation. The plant turns reddish as at matures.
