Polystichum munitum

Western Sword-Fern is a common forest understory fern. The fronds are tough, upright, long--sometimes four feet--and wide. The plants may dominate the flora in lowland forests or occur as individuals at higher elevations.

The leaflets are flat and do not overlap, and the midveins have rough scales.
