The flowers are borne on stems as much as a foot tall, and the basal leaves have three leaflets. The stems have only a few leaves.

The most common cinquefoil at the Park, this species grows in subapine meadows from elevations of 4,500 to 7,000 feet. The leaflets are broad and coarsely toothed. This species bloms early, but individuals at higher elevations may be observed in flower late in the season.
