Mt. Rainier Flora -- Ranunculus aquatilis -- (White Water-Buttercup)

presented by Susan McDougall

Ranunculus aquatilis

This is a water-dwelling buttercup, growing in ponds and slow-moving streams to an elevation of 6,000 feet. Threadlike leaves remain below the surface, but there are occasionally floating kidney-shaped leaves in shallow water plants. The showy white flowers are held above the water. This is variety aquatilis.
