The male and female catkins are on separate shrubs; here the male catkins are shown. The leaves are oval and finely toothed. This willow is most easily distinguished from other subalpine willows by the whitish underside of the leaves.

Most often encountered in wet places as shown here at Paradise Creek, this is a common subalpine willow, growing to elevations of 7,000 feet.
