Common on cliffs and rocky slopes from middle to high subalpine elevations, the name refers to the spreading seed capsules.

Sedum divergens

Large patches of this low plant add color to cliffs throughout the summer. The leaves are thick, sometimes reddish, and borne in opposite pairs on the flowering stems.
