The least common Smelowskia at the Park, this is a very high elevation species, known at elevations of 10,000 feet and commonly about 6,500. Here it grows on rocky ground alongside the trail on First Burroughs Mountain.

This species is distinguished by the stiff hairs on the stalk. The flowers are borne on short stems; there are 4 petals and 4 sepals. Smelowskia is a member of the Mustard family. This Smelowskia was formerly named Smelowskia calycina.
