A subalpine aster with woolly leaves that grows on harsh, rocky sites or in dry meadows above 5,000 feet at the Park.

The stems are only about six inches tall, and the leaves are whitish-hairy. The flowers are solitary and composed of rays only. This is variety dasycephala.
