Calyptridium umbellatum

A common subalpine species, growing to elevations of 9,000 feet, the flowers of this ground-hugging plant are dense heads on short stems, composed of papery sepals and white or pink petals.

The plants form a prostrate mat on rocky and sandy soils. This species was formerly named Cistanthe umbellata.
