Most common on the south side of the Park, this sedge is one of the few with a single spike. The spike is androgynous. The plants lack rootstocks. This species was formerly named Carex pyrenaica.

The leaves are short and slightly inrolled, and the plants are densely tufted. Pyrenaean Sedge grows to elevations of 8,000 feet.
