The deeply notched petals of the attractive flowers of this chickweed are a half-inch in length. This is subspecies strictum.

The leaves are arranged in small bundles on the upper stems, which are up to 15 inches tall. A species of middle to subalpine elevation, this chickweed is typically found in dry, open habitat.
