Mt. Rainier Flora -- Cornus sericea -- (Creek Dogwood)

Cornus sericea

Also known as "Red-osier Dogwood" this is a species of the south side of the Park, found in wet places from low elevation to about 4,500 feet. Up to 12 feet tall, the young twigs are red, an excellent field mark. The three-inch leaves are opposite.

Cornus sericea

The inflorescence is a flat-topped cluster of white flowers, borne at the end of the stem. The fruits are white. This is subspecies sericea.
