Mt. Rainier Flora -- Douglasia laevigata -- (Cliff-Primrose)

presented by Susan McDougall

Douglasia laevigata

Tufted and low, this Primrose Family member grows on rocky sites above 6,000 feet; here it is tucked among the rocks on the summit of Dege Peak. The leaves are spoon-shaped and fringed with tiny hairs.

Douglasia laevigata

When in flower (which apparently did not happen this particular year) the plants are more noticeable; the flowers are pink and tubular and borne in an umbel on a leafless stem.
