Lupinus lepidus -- (Dwarf Lupine)
The purplish flowers are in headlike racemes on short stems. The matted plants can cover large areas in certain locations. This is variety lobbii.

A ground-hugging lupine with striking grayish leaves, this is a locally common plant of open slopes and meadows, typically found between 7,000 and 9,000 feet, although sometimes lower.

Occasionally, white-flowered plants are encountered. This one grows alongside the Paradise Glacier Trail at approximately 6,200 feet.
