Individual heads of this beautiful flower occasionally pop up above other subalpine wet meadow plants late in the summer. The bright white petals are heavily fringed below the middle.

The leaves are kidney-shaped and basal. Although primarily found above 4,000 feet, plants are sometimes seen in cool locations at lower elevations.
