Locally common but not widespread, this lousewort is nearly endemic to the Park, with a few populations scattered to the east. It is a subalpine species, found between 5,000 and 7,000 feet of elevation.

The flowers are yellow and borne in a short, densely flowered head. The stems and leaves are hairless.

The leaves are pinnately divided, with the basal leaves much longer than those on the stem. The upper lip of the flower is hoodlike.
