Quite common at the Park, Small-flowered Penstemon is a subalpine species of rocky habitat and meadows, up to about 8,000 feet. The leaves are narrow and lack teeth; they are not stalked.

The flowers are arranged in a tight cluster and are typically a bright blue-violet. Occasionally, white flowers are found. This is variety tolmiei.
