This goldenrod is a small subalpine species that grows in meadows and on open ground. It is found throughout the Park from 5,000-7,500 feet and is easily observed at Frozen Lake above Sunrise.

The oblong leaves are reduced in size toward to the top of the stem. The flowers are borne in a flat-topped cluster and have several prominent rays.
