The berries of this frequently encountered huckleberry are blue-black, glaucous, and very edible.

Common in middle to lower subalpine forests, and sometimes lower, this Heather Family member is often the dominant shrub. The rounded pink flowers are configured in short racemes.

The oval leaves are pale green, deciduous, and finely toothed. The twigs are angled, and the plants may reach 6 feet in height.
